Loyal readers of this blog know I am a big, big fan of any and all things self-care. I really believe the time and money you invest in taking care of yourself helps you take care of others tenfold. My favorite self-care strategies are still monthly blowouts, biweekly manicures and the occasional facial or massage, but, lately it’s been hard to escape to the spa so I’ve been doing what I can at home.
Feeling a bit superstitious about caffeine and breastfeeding, I’ve been starting my day with tea instead of coffee. I have always loved flowering tea and this Teabloom variety is my new favorite. The edible flowers release loads of antioxidants - not to mention a beautiful fragrance - when hot water is poured over them. Watching the flowers unfurl in water is a calming morning ritual I’ve come to look forward to.
I started dabbling in essential oils this fall and I have to say - the hype isn’t for nothing. I love using them for my skin, my hair, cleaning my home and perfuming the air. I recently purchased an oil diffuser to take things to the next level and I absolutely love walking into my bedroom filled with the scent of lavender or eucalyptus. A sweet friend, Kelsey, from my local Facebook moms group has been working with oils for years and customizes the most gorgeous blends - if you’re interested, check her out at: https://www.instagram.com/baldwin.essentials/
It’s no secret that pregnancy does a number on your hair and skin. Like many new mothers, my hair falls out during and after pregnancy and the texture tends to change a bit. I’m doing my best to mitigate that using hair masks that restore moisture and help heal damaged hair. This DryBar Mudslide Nourishing Mask is a recent favorite.
At-Home Facial Steaming
My favorite part of any spa facial is always the steaming (well, after the massage part of course) and it turns out you can accomplish that part at home for a fraction of the price. I’ve been using an at-home steam machine specifically designed for the face that I purchased on Amazon this winter and my skin has never felt better. It’s a relaxing practice and helps open your pores and smooth lines and wrinkles - in five minutes! What more could you ask for?
What do you all use to take care of yourselves at home? Always looking for new ideas ♡
