Hi! My name is Emily and I'm a writer, a wife to Nick and mother to two very sweet little girls named Daisy and Ella. We live in a quaint little town outside Philadelphia, PA, with our two black lab sisters.

I started this blog as a way to stay connected with friends and family after Daisy was born and it has now become a home for musings on everything from our favorite family recipes, books, travel destinations and, ultimately, my quest to balance work, life, self-care and family - all while staying grateful. Happy reading!

Holiday Gift Picks for Kids & Families

October 25, 2017

I live for the holiday season. I love Thanksgiving and Christmas more than anyone I know and wait for them excitedly like a little kid as soon as New Years Eve has come and gone. I spend all year hoarding money and chipping away at my gift list for others. I pride myself on being clever and generous and usually I like to focus on experience gifts, but, now that I have a child, the idea of having a colorful spread under the tree is exhilarating.

As I start to prep my shopping list, here are some favorites for families and kids that I thought I'd share with all of you.

For the Family with Children Under Five

The Maclaren Volvo Umbrella Stroller from Saks - $150

Every family needs a lightweight, easily collapsible stroller that can fit in the trunk. This is the stylish, ergonomic version that comes complete with a SPF 50+ sun canopy, built-in visor and oversized shopping basket – plus you can fold it with one hand!

Family Fun Bucket List from Uncommon Goods - $18

I absolutely love this set of birchwood sticks designed to foster family fun and prompt learning and adventure as a family from stargazing to volunteering. Once you’ve crossed one of the bucket list, note the date on the back of the stick and keep working until your family has dated them all!

Universal Stroller Cup Holder Attachment from Amazon - $20

I can guarantee that every family in your life would benefit from this simple gift that makes it possible to enjoy a much-needed cup of coffee (or in my husband's case, sometimes a much-needed beer) while walking little ones around the neighborhood. Shockingly, most strollers don't come with a cupholder but this simple attachment adds that functionality in a snap.

Mini Bowling Set for Kids from Etsy - $30

How better to teach hand/eye coordination and a healthy sense of competition than with a weekly family bowling night? This tiny, colorful set of bowling set is perfect for little fingers.

For Kids

Chelsea All-in-One Kitchen Set from Pottery Barn Kids - $399

I want the adult version of this kitchen. This is the sort of toy you don’t mind keeping in your living room because it’s sleek. Plus: the oven burners turn, below the sink has lots of storage and the fridge even has shelves. What more could the young chef in your family ask for?

Personalized Wooden Tool Bench from Pottery Barn Kids - $129

There is a toolbench at the neighborhood play space where Daisy spends time every week and it is BY FAR her favorite station in the entire facility. I cannot wait to get her a toolbench of her own so she can spend time understanding how things work at home.

Classic Melissa & Doug Standing Easel from Amazon - $53

I remember spending hours at my own easel as a child and this Melissa & Doug is a classic. The two-sided easel is a perfect height (although adjustable) for little ones to create, create, create! Includes dry-erase board, chalkboard, locking paper-roll holder, child-safe paper cutter, 4 easy-clip grips and 2 large plastic trays that can be removed for easy cleaning.

Gold or Silver Tee Pee from Land of Nod - $119

Imagine the slumber parties, thunderstorm snuggle sessions and late-night storytelling that will unfold in this teepee! Land of Nod also sells pillow pads that go inside the teepee for little bottoms to settle on comfortably. Not included: flashlight, stuffed animals, popcorn for snacking.

Y Bike Ride on Toy & Walking Buddy from A Mighty Girl - $45

I wish we'd had this when Daisy was learning to walk! This clever device was designed to help little ones develop spatial awareness, balance and gross motor skills - and doubles as a "sit on" walker and walking aid push toy. The wide base keeps kiddos from falling forward when they're seated.

Dinosaur Liberty London Necklace from Sugar and Spunk - $25

These gorgeous necklaces were designed in collaboration with our dear friends, Bug & Bear Kids and I couldn't love them more. They're perfect for the little one who loves accessorizing and dinosaurs and space.

Happy shopping everyone!
