Hi! My name is Emily and I'm a writer, a wife to Nick and mother to two very sweet little girls named Daisy and Ella. We live in a quaint little town outside Philadelphia, PA, with our two black lab sisters.

I started this blog as a way to stay connected with friends and family after Daisy was born and it has now become a home for musings on everything from our favorite family recipes, books, travel destinations and, ultimately, my quest to balance work, life, self-care and family - all while staying grateful. Happy reading!

My Favorite Children's Book Lists

October 19, 2017

As a child, books were everything to me. They were my best friends when no one liked me. They were fuel for my imagination. They were a safe place that took me far from bullying and into adventures of land and sea. Writers like Shel Silverstein taught me to love trees and to be grateful, EB White taught me to love animals, to be kind and honest. Louise Fitzhugh taught me how to keep a spy journal and stay curious. To this day, reading brings me immense joy and I cannot wait to share this great love with my children.

I am always actively building Daisy's library and adding from recommendations and articles and lists. I thought I'd share some of my latest lists with all of you.

100 Best Children's Books of All Time

from Time Magazine

This one has all the classics - Make Way For Ducklings, Where the Wild Things Are, Miss Rumphius and Madeline. If you're not a parent and have friends with kids, buy them any book from this list and you'll have a slam dunk.

The Fifty Best Books to Teach Children Empathy

from Teach Thought

In my mind, nothing can be more important than empathy. I remember many of these books shaping the way I thought about the world around me - like the Family Under the Bridge and Charlotte's Web.

30 Best Children's Books on the Autism Spectrum

from Applied Behavioral Analysis Programs

Daisy is bound to make friends with children who are on the spectrum and I want her to understand how to befriend them and how best to communicate with them so she can be a kind and loving presence in their lives.

The Fifteen Best Kids Books About Telling the Truth

from the Early Childhood Education Zone

We are big on honesty in our household and look forward to instilling a commitment to truthfulness in our children. These are great finds that explain the importance of being honest for little ones.

100 Best Children's Book for African American History Month

from Book Riot

I think we can all agree that African American history is not taught well in schools - if at all - whether public or private. This list helps chip away at painting a more accurate picture of our history than what classic textbooks can offer.

Best Children's Books on the Environment

from A Mighty Girl

I've written about "A Mighty Girl" before on this blog and if you haven't yet visited - you should! It's an amazing site of filled with books and toys for smart, confident and courageous girls. I love the books on this list and the focus on stewardship of our beautiful planet.

40 Classic Children's Books Even Adults Love

from Real Simple

I love this list - with favorites like Little Bear (his best friend was Emily! Of course I love him :) and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day - which we can ALL relate to.

Happy reading, my dear readers!
